DeGarmo: “The excitement concerning an attack greatly subsides”
UL: “Is the weather bearable?”
DeGarmo: “Weather very warm. A good air all day and quite pleasant.”
UL: “Any news about Major General Mower?”
DeGarmo: “Major General Mower arrived at Little Rock last night.”
UL: “Do you still go to church?”
DeGarmo: “Sunday I Blacked my shoes, put on a paper collar and went to Campbleite church in the forenoon heard a pretty good sermon. Took a walk in the afternoon - had preaching at camp in the evening.”
UL: “Do rumors pass through the camp?”
DeGarmo: “A rumor today that rebel Shelby was at Pilot Knob Mo”
UL: “How is a victory celebrated?”
DeGarmo: “100 minute guns were fired here in honor of Sheridan s victory”
UL: “Are you all preparing for winter?”
DeGarmo: “All busy in camp fixing winter quarters.”
